RYA Advanced Powerboat
- Day and Night Course
| Minimum Age? | Seventeen |
| Previous Experience Required? | Dayskipper theory* Experienced boat handler* |
| Duration? | Two Days |
| No.of Students per Boat? | Three |
The course is a fairly even mix of practical and theory, each day, with a night passage on the evening of day one. The syllabus includes:
- Responsibilities of the Skipper
- Pilotage and passage making, day and night
- Night cruising
- Meteorology
- Rough water handling - subject to conditions
- Level Two skills to a high standard
As a further building block in the Powerboat scheme, it will cover some aspects of Level Two as revision, with a view to making sure skills are of the highest level.
It is well worth reviewing all Level Two skills, and putting in plenty of practice before attending an Advanced course. As an assessed course over the two days, the expected standard is high. Should students not reach that standard,
an action plan will be suggested, to give time for skills improvement, before re-assessment at a later date.
It is a requirement of the course that all candidates hold a VHF operator's certificate and a suitable First Aid certificate.*
For the full course syllabus, please refer to the RYA Powerboat Scheme Logbook G20, available from Quay Marine Training.*Please call for details.
